Meet Dr. Marx

Dr. Robert Marx is an Orthopedic Surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery and Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Weill Medical College of Cornell University. He is Vice Chair of Orthopedic Surgery for faculty development at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Dr. Marx has extensive experience in knee and shoulder surgery, with particular interest in ACL surgery, complex knee ligament reconstruction, and knee replacement. He has been voted as one of the “Best Doctors in New York” by New York Magazine for multiple years. Dr. Marx is the Head Consulting Orthopedic Surgeon for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), The Juilliard School and a Team Physician for the New York Rangers.  

   

Dr. Marx went to college at Université de Montréal and graduated with a BSc.  He went on to Medical School at McGill University, also in Montréal, Québec, Canada and then completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Toronto in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.  During his residency, Dr. Marx completed a MSc in Clinical Epidemiology, also at the University of Toronto.  After his residency he was a fellow for two years at Hospital for Special Surgery in sports medicine, focusing on knee and shoulder surgery.  

   

Dr. Marx has published over 300 peer reviewed scientific articles and six books, including three relating to ACL injury and surgery. He is a Senior Associate Editor for the HSS Journal: The Musculoskeletal Journal of Hospital for Special Surgery.  

 

Dr. Marx has been invited to lecture at many academic institutions around the world, including Harvard University and the Mayo Clinic. Dr. Marx serves on the Executive Board of Directors of the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery, and Orthopedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS) as Second-Vice President and will serve as ISAKOS President for the 2027-2029 term.  

   

Visiting surgeons from around the world travel to New York to observe Dr. Marx in the operating room. He also treats patients from across North America and overseas who travel to New York specifically for their surgery. Dr. Marx enjoys speaking French with his international patients and colleagues.
